A poem about being a sardine which I wrote in fifth grade.
I am a sardine.
I wonder why people dislike my taste.
I hear people's secrets, wonders, and gossip.
I see nothing but black,
Yet I sometimes see yellow and green.
I want nothing but to be liked and I to like them.
I am a sardine.
I pretend that I'm the king
Of the most loved fish, crown and all.
I feel very lonely
Even though I'm very squished in this tiny can.
I touch my friends
Since that is the only thing I can touch.
I worry that I will never be a great tasting fish.
I cry when fishers catch me because I know my fate.
I am a sardine.
I understand that I am not
The most delicious fish around.
I say that sardines are the future, we'll make a difference.
I dream of being under the sea again
Swimming with my friends.
I try to do my best even though no one pays attention.
I hope to someday be the most loved fish in the world.
I am a sardine.
I am a sardine.
